Listen to this episode:
It’s not often that you plan to make a revolutionary change that will impact the world for decades to come, unless you are into bitcoin. Our goal is to ensure hyperbitcoinization through education and evangelism. One of my favorite contributors here at the magazine, Dion Guillaume, discussed these ideas with me in our recent episode of “Meet The Taco Plebs”. We explained how bitcoin was first portrayed in the media, how bitcoin brings financial freedom to people, what is important to understand about bitcoin and more. Be sure to listen to the full podcast and check out the written interview below.
How did you first hear about bitcoin?
I first heard about bitcoin in 2011 while reading my daily Gizmodo reading. In 2015, before he passed away, my uncle and I discussed bitcoin and he mentioned that it had merit and that I should be a part of it, which I did not do again.
It wasn’t until early 2017, right at the start of the bull run, that I really got into bitcoin. Of course at the time I was not very knowledgeable and lost a fair amount of money in day trading. After a while, I decided to adopt the “diamond hands” mantra and continue with HODL. It paid off.
How has Bitcoin changed your life?
Well, since I haven’t sold any, I would say that financially I haven’t changed much, but as my understanding of bitcoin and the global financial markets grew, I became a lot more aware of how the governments and financial institutions of the world exercise control over the masses.
Bitcoin brings financial freedom and despite its volatility at times, it’s a solid hedge against inflation, possibly the best “rainy day” fund we’ve ever had.
What do you think is the most important part of Bitcoin for people to understand?
There are two things that I think are important for people to understand about bitcoin. The first is that its impact on the environment is not as severe as the media might think and that bitcoin mining is likely to fuel the uptake of renewable energy sources. The second is that bitcoin is not primarily made up of obscure characters eager to commit crimes and hide their wealth.
What are you looking forward to the most in the Bitcoin space?
Continued adoption. Bitcoin is still in its infancy. El Salvador’s adoption of bitcoin as legal tender paved the way for the adoption of bitcoin by so many other countries. Bitcoin is very likely to become the global currency over the next several decades. There will of course be challenges, but nothing in life is easy and as has been proven in the past, bitcoin can withstand any obstacle in its path.
Price forecast for the end of 2021, and the end of 2030?
While I would love to see bitcoin break through the $ 250,000 mark towards the end of 2021, I think it will be more likely in the range of $ 150,000. We’ve been waiting for a decent bull run for a long time and I reckon November and December will be the months when we finally see bitcoin hit the six-digit mark.
As for 2030, I strongly believe that bitcoin will likely hit the $ 5 million mark around that date, maybe even up to $ 10 million. Only time will tell. But consider that more countries are adopting bitcoin, the United States is getting closer to bitcoin and the majority of companies are adding it to their balance sheets, how would that be reflected in the price? How would a billion, two or three billion people using bitcoin affect its price? We will see the sat standard as soon as possible.
