Laguna Games Raises $ 5 Million To Launch Crypto Unicorns With NFT Eggs

Laguna Games today announced a $ 5 million funding round to create its blockchain-based game, Crypto Unicorns. The developer plans to seed the market with 10,000 unicorn egg non-fungible tokens (NFTs) starting next month.

The funding round was led by ed by Bitkraft Ventures and Delphi Digital, as well as Transcend Fund, Headline Ventures and Polygon Studios. Funding will go towards building Crypto Unicorns and a future portfolio of other games.

Laguna is a game research and development studio specializing in blockchain technology. Crypto Unicorns is the studio’s first digital nation, as it calls the game, and it will be a digital collection of pets based on what Laguna calls community-owned game savings. It will be launched on the web, iOS and Android.

Aron Beierschmitt, CEO of Laguna Games, said in a statement that this is a change from traditional free-to-play game mechanics: The blockchain gaming industry is experiencing explosive growth, and we are confident that we are on the verge of next platform wave. As longtime free-to-play developers, we are excited to move away from the extractive nature of F2P to foster and nurture community-owned game economies through a movement we invented as Play-and. -Earn (PAE).

Laguna is going to seed the market with its Genesis Unicorn Egg NFTs, which will be available for pre-sale from November 15. (I had no idea the unicorns had hatched from eggs, but maybe that’s a biology lesson for another time.) According to Laguna, these will be the only genesis eggs to exist. NFTs use the transparent and secure blockchain digital ledger to authenticate unique digital items.

Unicorns will be available in a variety of colors and appearances and can be used in fighting games, including jousting and racing. Participating in these games will take them to the next level. According to the Lagunas white paper: Operating multiple types of games adds additional utility to NFT assets over time. For example, a really good Racing Unicorn won’t necessarily be the best Jousting Unicorn, or Battlecorn. Ultimately, we envision an ever-expanding universe of play loops interconnected with the original farming loop.
