Sports are a way for fans to get away from the daily grind and get away from it all. Meanwhile, for more and more users, crypto is something people cannot live without. This is a fitting crossover of engagement, with new partnerships and projects coming to life every week. This is what we at Bitcoinist are looking to cover every Sunday with “The Sports Slice”.
Last week we saw another Dapper Labs partner enter the mix, the NBA Sacramento Kings found an innovative new crypto partner, and Binance struck a jersey deal for one of the most popular football clubs. most recognizable in Europe. As always, let’s move on to these stories and more to briefly recap all of the action from the past week.
The Sports Slice Dapper teams up with Kevin Durant boardroom
Dapper Labs is taking root in sports NFTs in a way few other platforms even come close. In recent months, IPs from sports leagues like the WNBA, LaLiga and the NFL have been secured or published.
Plus, new athlete membership is pouring in every month as professional stars see the potential for a new wave of fan engagement, not to mention generating substantial income. Kevin Durant of the NBA is one of the most talented stars in the league and last week he partnered with Dapper Labs through Thirty Five Ventures, which owns the Boardroom media platform. Dapper’s Top Shot product will engage in co-branded activations through Boardroom, Durant being “particularly included”.
This is apparently a victory for all parties: Dapper enjoys more media exposure to direct audiences, Durant gets more positive media coverage, and Boardroom acquires media resources to continue producing basketball content.
Ankr: fit for a king
The Sacramento Kings may be in rebuild mode, relying on a young core of talented guards, including De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, and Tyrese Haliburton. However, the franchise also brings young and innovative partnerships. In an announcement on NBA.com this week, the Kings are teaming up with Ethereum-based Web3 infrastructure and cross-chain DeFi platform Ankr.
In recent years, the Kings have been named Fast Company’s ‘Most Innovative Company in Sports’ and have partnered with a number of different crypto-premier firms in recent years. The team piloted the very first NFT smart ticket program during Summer League games, and the property was one of the first to discuss the potential for paying players in crypto. Additionally, the team has already partnered with leading companies such as Blockparty, Manifold, and others for a variety of different crypto integrations.
Another Bruins token is brewed
In a Sports Slice briefing last month, we covered the story of UCLA basketball goalie Jaylen Clark, who was the first varsity athlete to have his own token, $ JROCK. Last week, another UCLA guard joined the ranks. Like Clark, Bruins point guard Tyger Campbell teams up with Rally to present $ TYGER.
“I look forward to connecting with my fans / community to provide limited merchandise giveaways, opportunities to challenge myself in Super Smash Bros. and chess, as well as have exclusive access to me and my career.” Campbell said of the token. Release.
Safe to say – this is a new generation of fan engagement.

The untapped vertical sport for Chiliz: tennis
If you’re sick of hearing about Chiliz every week, you can’t blame us. The fan engagement token platform has firmly stepped on the gas, locking in remarkable new sports partnerships with teams and leagues every week for months. Last week, Chiliz joined the former NBA Los Angeles Lakers franchise as a partner of Socios.com.
The platform does not hesitate to explore new territories either. In last week’s Sports Slice, we covered comments from Chiliz and Socios.com CEO Alexandre Dreyfus who wanted tokenization of ‘brands, media, entertainment (TV, music) and retail. “.
Now, Chiliz and Socios.com are already exploiting new territory. One vertical that we haven’t seen much exploration in yet is tennis – but an announcement last week is changing that. Socios.com is locking Davis Cup as a partner for a new token, $ DAVIS. Known as the “Tennis World Cup”, the Davis Cup will be one of the first major tennis events in partnership with Socios.com and Chiliz.
This is probably the tip of the “exploration iceberg” for Chiliz and Socios.com, if Dreyfus’ recent feelings are any indication of the moves to come.

When it comes to sports engagement, we hear a lot about exchanges like Coinbase and FTX, both of which have been particularly aggressive in making sports partnership deals. A name we haven’t heard much about? Binance. Last week we can change that.
Italy’s Lazio, a leading club in the Serie A soccer league, have hired Binance as a shirt sponsor under a two-year contract (with an option to extend) worth nearly US $ 35 million. The deal marks the third Serie A club to partner with a crypto firm (behind Inter Milan and AS Roma).
The partnership includes the primary jersey sponsorship rights and will consolidate Binance as the primary Lazio fan engagement distributor.
