Bitcoin adoption does not appear to be slowing down as more institutions embrace the functionality of the asset. Growing customer demand has seen various institutions implement bitcoin payments. One of those institutions is Elon Musk’s alma mater, Pennsylvania State University. Penn State is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States and has produced some of the world’s most distinguished personalities.

The Ivy League joins the rank of a shortlist of colleges in the United States now accepting cryptocurrency payments for education. Musk attended the prestigious university from 1992 to 1997 where he obtained two bachelor’s degrees in physics and economics.

King’s College made history as the first American college to accept crypto payments when it announced that students could pay for their education using crypto in 2014. At that time, bitcoin and crypto were still relatively unknown to the wider market, making King’s College an early adopter of cryptocurrencies.

California Intercontinental University followed the move this year after the online college began allowing students to pay their tuition fees with Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Amid the growing interest in bitcoin payments, automaker Tesla appears to be rethinking its stance on bitcoin payments. The electric car maker had started accepting bitcoin payments for its vehicles earlier in the year. But subsequently repealed that future soon after, citing energy concerns over mining as the reason for the repeal.

However, a recent filing from the company showed that this move can only be temporary after all. Tesla filed a report on the results with the Securities and Exchange Commission in October, in which it said the electric vehicle maker may resume crypto payments in the future. “We may in the future restart the practice of transactions in cryptocurrencies (‘digital assets’) for our products and services,” the file said.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously said the automaker will resume accepting bitcoin payments once it is certain that the energy sources for mining are at least 50% renewable. The industry naturally turned to renewable energies in order to avoid government sanctions. So Tesla would most likely consider re-establishing bitcoin payments in the not-so-distant future.
