Macro guru Raoul Pal says regulators are starting to see the value of crypto, which could cause them to make a big compromise on the industry.
In a new interview on decentralized finance chain (DeFi) The Defiant, the CEO of Real Vision said regulators are struggling to apply traditional securities laws to the complex and nascent crypto space.
“The traditional system is struggling to figure out how to integrate this. We just saw it with a Bitcoin ETF. They are trying to fit it into an existing framework that is not working, so the classic negotiating tactic would be to start with the hardest line possible i.e. everyone will go to jail, you are all terrible people, [and] this is all illegal.
As regulators realize how much crypto is at stake and the old system doesn’t work for the space, Pal says laws specifically designed to govern digital assets could emerge.
“The reality is I think they learned pretty quickly that there is a huge amount of money behind this and a lot of young people who have a lot of votes, so what’s going to happen? I think there is a big compromise somewhere in that compromise, and that’s what has to happen, and it won’t be the securities laws. It will be new digital asset laws. “
Pal says Singapore is already making progress on its crypto regulations, but the United States may still need more time to smooth the digital asset space.
“I think at the end there will be a lot of bragging, and it’s negotiating tactics because everyone wants to have their side of the line, and there will probably be a big compromise reached in, I guess, three years. I don’t think it’s going to be quick.
