Venezuelan authorities seize over 100 miners from underground Bitcoin mining – Bitcoin News

Venezuelan authorities have seized more than 100 mining machines in a residential area in a central state. There are reports that the mining farm was operating illegally without the permits required by the national cryptocurrency watchdog, Sunacrip, for these operations. The seizure was carried out by the national police, agents of the national electricity company and Sunacrip staff.

Venezuelan mining farm seized by authorities

Authorities seized more than 100 minors who were operating illegally at a clandestine farm in a residential area in Miranda, a central state in Venezuela. According to local media reports, authorities located the farm due to the pressure it placed on the region’s electricity distribution system. This prompted police and authorities from the National Electricity Company (Corpoelec) and the National Cryptocurrency Watch (Sunacrip) to inspect to verify undeclared mining activity.

The farm was dismantled and the mining equipment was seized by Sunacrip. Cryptocurrency mining is a completely legal operation in Venezuela, but it requires a series of permits issued by Sunacrip and designed to protect the electrical system from potential stresses. However, due to past events, some miners simply choose to mine underground, bypassing Sunacrip’s surveillance and giving the opportunity for these events to occur.

Sunacrip has repeatedly called on minors to register with the organization, giving guarantees to minors.

More crises occur

This is not the only seizure these authorities have made in the state. 165 mining machines were seized from a warehouse in the same state, which also lacked the necessary permits to operate in the area. Like the most recent incident, this seizure was also a joint action by police forces and Sunacrip agents. This year, Sunacrip had to demand that these visits always be carried out in the company of a Sunacrip agent, in order to avoid possible irregularities in the inspection process.

In addition, in June, more than 400 minors were seized due to a lack of permits when transporting the machines. Authorities confiscated the mining cargo at a checkpoint.

But even registered Venezuelan miners have already had problems with the executives of the power company and Sunacrip. In August, agents from the national electricity company cut off the power supply to Bitcoin miners registered under strange circumstances in Carabobo state. Sunacrip was able to mediate between the parties concerned and the miners were reconnected to the electricity grid after a week.
