After becoming the first artist to receive an all-Bitcoin artist prepayment, Money Man ditched Blockchain, an ode to cryptocurrency that features contributions from Moneybagg Yo, Yung Bleu, and Jackboy.
The album comes as Money Man simultaneously launched an NFT collection of the album’s trailer, and after receiving its entire 7-digit Bitcoin advance from EMPIRE founder Ghazi. The Blockchain album trailer is priced at 0.0333 ethereum, which works out to around $ 150. In addition, all NFT owners received a 25% discount in the Money Man Merchandise Shop. On tracks like “Blockchain,” Money Man extends his knowledge of cryptography even further. “Fuckin ‘with the Coinbase Pro, I took out Zcash / Fuckin’ with the Robinhood, I got a free bag / And I’m on the blockchain, I’m burning on the blockchain, damn, that octane shit,” raps he does.
Money Man’s moves in the digital market are also prompting other rappers to follow suit, including Meek Mill, who praised the rapper on his historic breakthrough and asked if he could join the club. “I’m going to charge my next recording deal in coins behind @moneyman,” Meek wrote in his Insta story with a screenshot of the $ 1,002,912 Money Man received from the payment. Meek recently expressed his frustrations with label payments via Twitter. “I don’t get paid for the music and I don’t know how much money the labels make me !!!!! I need lawyers ASAP !!! he wrote last month. The tweet has since been deleted.
