Kevin O’Leary has some tips for new crypto investors
Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary, chairman of ETF O’Shares, gave some advice to new investors looking to get into the bitcoin or crypto space for the first time in an interview with Bitcoin Magazine, posted at Beginning of the month.
O’Leary was asked, “Do you have any advice for people curious about bitcoin or just getting into space?” He has answered:
I really advise them to explore this asset and the way to do it is to start small, to start understanding platforms. Are you going to buy it through a centralized wallet? Are you going to decentralize? Try all the options, learn from experience.
He added, “The thing with bitcoin is you have to learn to work with it… There are many ways to approach it. There are many ways to own it.
The Shark Tank star then shared that “her 25-year-old son is now completely comfortable with all the ways to own bitcoin – all the ways to trade it, all the ways to own it, all the ways to put it on the line. He’s the next generation. He did it on his own. He has never been to a bank branch. He never goes to a bank, doesn’t know why he would.
O’Leary continued, “Millennials and millennials, and now baby boomers, are all learning. They make mistakes. I know people lost their coins, but they did it on a small basis. And they don’t make that mistake anymore. They create awareness on how to do it.
He underlined:
It is a wonderful universe. It is a fantastic asset. This is a must if you are an investor, and then this is the way you do it. But it’s all about education.
O’Leary noted that the good news is that there is a “community that provides a great resource online. You can only spend three or four hours and you will become… fairly knowledgeable about what Bitcoin is, how it works, and how to own it.
In a Reddit Talk session on Thursday, he explained that his crypto holdings include a number of cryptocurrencies as well as companies and products in the space, such as companies building decentralized wallets. “So we’re going to end up at the end of the year with a really big stake in crypto assets, and it’s not just bitcoin,” he explained.
Although the Shark Tank star did not disclose all of his crypto holdings, he did confirm that he owned, among other things, bitcoins, ethers, and USD coins. He admitted that he had “a lot of ethereum”. He bought his first piece in 2017.
Mr. Wonderful revealed:
I have remarkably developed the portfolio. At the start of the year, I was at 3% weighting. The objective was to obtain 7% by the end of the year. However, due to the appreciation of so many assets that I have now, we are almost at 10% today.
In early October, he said his crypto exposure was more than gold for the first time. In September, he said he expects a “trillion dollars” to be poured into BTC.
Last month, Bitcoin.com News reported on its Shark Tank co-star Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA Dallas Mavericks team, when he gave advice to new crypto investors.
