You can buy AMC cinema ticket with Crypto

Cryptocurrency is generally considered an investment, but let’s not forget that it’s a form of currency that can be used to pay for things. Now AMC, the rulers of the stock meme, has started accepting various currencies on their website, so you can pay for a movie with crypto.

Currently, you can use Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin to pay for movie tickets on the AMC website. According to a tweet from AMC CEO Adam Aron, the company also plans to accept Dogecoin afterwards.

While this is unconfirmed, Aron specifically calls online shopping with crypto, so it doesn’t look like you can walk into your local cinema and pay for a movie with crypto. Instead, you’ll need to purchase tickets in advance if you want to spend your Bitcoin and other currencies. While that makes it a little less exciting, it’s still a great way to use your cash if you don’t want to sit on it.

Aron’s tweet also mentions that new online payment methods “already represent 14% of our total online transactions.” However, he also mentioned that he accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal, so it looks like those are included in that number. It’s not clear how popular paying for movies with crypto is, but we would expect the number of people using it to be quite low.
