Staples Center renamed Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles

Let’s set the scene: You’re sitting on the balcony of an arena with a group of friends, overpriced canned wine in hand, ready to see your favorite pop star. The lights go out, they go on stage, they kill the first song. Then you hear it: “Crypto.com Arena, make some noise!” Horrible. But that will be reality in Los Angeles from December 25, when Staples Center becomes Crypto.com Arena under a new 20-year naming deal. The Los Angeles Times reported that event promotion company AEG had struck a deal with the Singapore-based cryptocurrency website, with the new name costing more than $ 700 million. By June 2022, according to the newspaper, Staples’ iconic signage will be replaced with the Crypto.com brand. Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek called the deal “such a brilliant move on the part of the AEG guys”, and not just because they said yes to over $ 700 million. He also confidently dubbed the name change “the moment the crypto broke the chasm into the mainstream.” OK!

More than a major concert venue in Los Angeles, the future Crypto.com Arena is known as the home of the LA Lakers and Clippers basketball teams and the LA Kings hockey team, who will be playing all put up with that name far longer than any musician playing two nights at Crypto.com Arena. Yet, we say, think of musicians! (Except, of course, crypto-rappers and NFT enthusiasts who are probably now clamoring for concerts in the arena.) The first poor performers who get a chance to address a crowd at Crypto.com Arena will be the ones who will play Calibash on January 14. –16, 2022, including Ozuna, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Rauw Alejandro, Kali Uchis and the Black Eyed Peas. Then, a few days later, on January 31, the Grammy Awards will return and we could maybe hear “Crypto.com Arena” on live TV. What an exciting time we are living in!
