As Bitcoinist reported a month ago, Twitter has partnered with Jack Maller’s Strike Lightning wallet to bring Bitcoin into their app. Right now, the payment company has launched a Strike API platform for merchants to offer their products.

The social media giant claimed the following in September when it took another step forward to propel Bitcoin into the mainstream:

We want everyone on Twitter to have access to channels to get paid. Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and help people send money across borders and with as little friction as possible – help us get there.

To activate the feature, users need to go to their profile and press the Edit button. Later, they will find the tip option which they can activate and link to one of the Bitcoin Lightning Network wallets. The app allows users to choose how they tip and their own vendors.

Jack Dorsey and his Bitcoin quest

The social media platform and its CEO, Jack Dorsey, have supported BTC for several years. BTC was the first and only cryptocurrency to receive its own symbol when using a hashtag. At least, the only one to receive it for free, as Dorsey himself pointed out.

The executive has taken several initiatives to support Bitcoin and its development through its companies. Square crypto, a division of Dorsey’s Square, frequently gives financial support to BTC core developers so that they can continue their work.

Additionally, Dorsey has funded numerous charities, nonprofits, and other projects with Bitcoin. Together with legendary rapper Jay Z, Dorsey invested 500 BTC to create an endowment to provide funds for the development of BTC in Africa and India.

More recently, Dorsey revealed an initiative to create a decentralized Bitcoin exchange (DEX) to expand adoption and make it easier for everyone to access this cryptocurrency. The initiative recently released an 18-page white paper and will publish more details in the future.
