Subjectivity deals with the conscious experience of an individual. A person’s agency, perspective, desires, beliefs, and feelings are all subjective.
Objectivity in philosophy deals with reality outside of subjectivity. Objectivity is the state of all things without conscious bias.
Bitcoin is objective money. Fiat is not. There are no individuals or small groups of conscious experiences at this point in Bitcoin’s trajectory that can affect how Bitcoin works. A person may have a subjective desire to sell their Bitcoin, but by performing this act they are submitting to the objective nature of the protocol. In this way, Bitcoin objects our subjective experience.
You can send Bitcoin on a whim, but you have to follow a set of rules to complete a valid transaction. For example, if you provide an incorrectly formatted overlay address, you will not receive any Bitcoin there.
If you participate in the Bitcoin protocol by its rules, you may feel the joy of receiving Bitcoin and watching the confirmations arrive, but Bitcoin is agnostic to your experience. In Bitcoin, the simple act of possession is the only prerequisite for spending. Not so in fiat. Owning Bitcoin means knowing that you can prove you have a secret without revealing what that secret is.
Qualia are a form of secrecy. Qualia are examples of subjective experience. A common example of quale is color. Who can confirm that two people see the same redness? When we describe pain to a doctor, we describe its subjective qualia. Pain scales often used in hospitals attempt to objectify these subjective experiences. Although it seems that it is not yet possible to convey our inner state, measure our qualia and share them in a meaningful way. This is a gap that has not yet been closed. Solving this can also solve the body-mind problem.
Does Bitcoin Objective Subjective Experiences? There is no correlation between the amount of Bitcoin you own and your internal resources. I don’t think the transaction process can transform subjective experience in a reproducible and independently verifiable way. Bitcoin is designed to do a few simple tasks, and solving our biological mysteries is not one of them. But the Bitcoin blockchain can certainly be a measure or timekeeper of subjective experiences. For example, if one spent his Bitcoin for a dinner, or for any experiment, the energy transaction, the cost of this experiment will be reflected to some extent on the blockchain, even if there is no is no other facts about the inner experience. can be kept intact. So why is this important?
Bitcoin is the only objective set of facts in the world. When we interact with the blockchain, whether to send, receive, audit, or simply hold, we attest, submit and contribute to this set of objective information. Bitcoin is the only story we have agreed upon, although we do agree that there are several asynchronous stories in this universe, and Bitcoin is just one of them. It is also the only objective story that is not centralized on this planet.
Empirical evidence suggests that our consciousness is centralized, although capable of processing decentralized inputs. Although a vast array of human experiences conveyed in language and art attest to the decentralization of our consciousness. Any unusual brain condition that someone has achieved with drugs or meditation has probably been discovered and experienced the same way by someone who is sober. If qualia were measurable, perhaps we could find two cases of different people experiencing the same quale, which might suggest that parts of our consciousness and perhaps even our identity may be decentralized.
Yet we have no reason to believe that consciousness is an exception to the laws of thermodynamics as far as we understand them. It is therefore possible that the wild combination will be found one day, and the brain-body problem will be solved. As written elsewhere, I believe Bitcoin will play a major role in providing a foundation upon which science can advance in a decentralized way that we have never seen before. Over time, with sufficient collective capital accumulation, it might be possible to build anything at the atomic level. At this point, whole worlds could be replicated, stories could be replicated, simulations confirmed.
Subjective experiences themselves are not fungible between consciousnesses, as Wittgenstein described it, you cannot have a toothache in another’s mouth. One cannot feel the physical sensations of another any more than the sight of another. This is one of the reasons why it is so difficult to find empirical evidence that those in your immediate experience are not philosophical zombies, devoid of qualia.
There is an argument that if no specific part of the brain gives rise to qualia directly, i.e. if the subjective conscious experience is distinct from our physical brain, then it is conceivable that there may be people who experience no qualia at all. These philosophical zombies would behave like people but without having subjective phenomenology. (The complacent submission of the population to governments forcing injections into their bodies tells me that many people do not have subjective experiences and / or do not view their bodies as private property, but I cannot prove it. ) This argument poses a problem for physicalism. If such zombies exist, they refute the idea that physical substance is all that is needed to explain consciousness.
If we are in a simulation, when we take leave of someone do they stop being returned? Would not renderings at all scales become difficult to calculate at any time? Doesn’t the synchronous event exist? It would be inefficient to render atoms where none is seen.
Bitcoin offers us proof that energy is spent outside of our immediate experience. It’s a nice reminder that we are one among a network, a true distributed community.
Unlike Bitcoin transactions and network participants, qualia are not verifiable. Daniel Dennet, cognitive science researcher and philosopher, defined qualia with four properties.
1) Qualia cannot be communicated or apprehended outside of direct experience, so they are ineffable.
2) They have the property of being non-relational. Qualia do not change based on the relationship of experience to other things, so they are intrinsic.
3) Interpersonal comparisons of qualia are systematically impossible, so they are private.
4) Qualia are directly or immediately understandable in consciousness. To experience a quale is to know everything there is to know about it and to recognize that you experience it.
In short, a person who experiences a quale will find that they are unable to describe it to someone who has never experienced it as long as they have communicated everything there is to know about the experience.
For example, consider describing a certain blue to someone who has never seen it. No matter what you communicate, the person will not receive a full description and have not yet fully experienced that color.
By spreading the education and adoption of Bitcoin, we can provide the opportunity for qualia, which cannot be linked to the blockchain in any meaningful way, but can be time stamped against certain blocks. By offering Bitcoin, there is no way to verify that an inner subjective experience has been received, and no way to make the unmeasurable experience you have had with Bitcoin since you learned it from others. However, there is some overlap between Bitcoin as a goal and qualia as a subjective truth.
1) Bitcoin cannot be communicated or understood outside of direct experience, so they are ineffable.
2) Bitcoin has the property of being non-relational. The protocol doesn’t change based on the user or the user’s relationship with other things, so Bitcoin is intrinsic.
3) Bitcoins are interoperable. Spending Bitcoins outside of the public ledger is systematically impossible, so they are public.
4) Bitcoins are directly understandable in conscience. To receive a Bitcoin, it is to know everything about this Bitcoin, and to recognize that you are the owner.
