Mark Cuban reacts to Staples Center name change to Crypto.com Arena

It was announced last week that Staples Center will be changing its name to Crypto.com Arena. The news came out of nowhere and is expected to go into effect on December 25 of this year. Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the name change would be the largest venue naming rights deal in the United States to date.

Thoughts about the change varied from person to person, but Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban seemed to like the new name. When asked if the Clippers’ game against the Mavericks on Sunday, Cuban said, “I thought it was a great deal.”

Cuban explained his early thoughts, stating that these crypto companies are killing him right now. His only concern was that these companies are often based outside of the United States, due to certain regulations that exist in the United States. Cuba would like to look for ways to bring these companies back to the United States.

LA Clippers star Paul George shared some in-depth thoughts on the name change on the night of his announcement, stating, “It will be weird. I grew up with the Staples Center as a place to play and be. really weird. It’s the same place, but it’s kind of stripping the history here by calling it another way … Luckily we won’t be staying here too long, we will be at home. George was referring to the Inglewood Intuit Dome set to debut as the new home of the LA Clippers in 2024.
