Regal Cinema, a subsidiary of UK multiplex cinema chain Cineworld Group plc (OTC: CNNWF), has become the latest to join the crypto movement.

What happened: Regal said on Tuesday that it is partnering with digital payment network Flexa so customers can pay for movie tickets, popcorns and the like using a multitude of digital currencies.

Digital currencies to use include cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), Ether (CRYPTO: ETH), the platform’s native token Ethereum, Litecoin (CRYPTO: LTC), and Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE).

Regal will also accept digital dollars and stablecoins including USD Coin (CRYPTO: USDC), Dai (CRYPTO: DAI) and Gemini Dollar (CRYPTO: GUSD), as well as digital tokens including Chainlink (CRYPTO: LINK) , Cosmos (CRYPTO: ATOM), and the Basic Attention Token (CRYPTO: BAT).

“Regal understands that digital assets are a rapidly growing and increasingly important form of value. By embracing digital currencies for payment in its theaters, Regal is offering more convenience and choice to moviegoers than ever before,” said the company said in a statement.

Why it matters: Cryptocurrencies, although going through a phase of consolidation, have been in a tear this year. One of the factors that may push them further is increased widespread adoption.

Regal has one of the largest and most geographically diverse theater circuits in the United States, comprising 6,885 screens in 514 theaters in 42 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Guam as of October 31.

AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AMC), the largest movie theater chain in the United States, already accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash (CRYPTO: BCH), and Litecoin.

After months of teasing, CEO Adam Aron made an announcement in this regard via Twitter on November 11. He also said that Dogecoin would likely be the next to be added. Cryptos already accounted for 14% of AMC’s total online transactions, he added.
