“Afghan girl” Sharbat Gula safely evacuated to Italy thanks to the efforts of photographer Steve McCurry, the Crypto Metagood / OnChainMonkey community and the Future Brilliance association

SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Legendary ‘Afghan Girl’ photographer, Steve McCurry, and his sister, Bonnie McCurry, are delighted to announce that, along with the Anglo-American charity Future Brilliance, and with the support from the Italian government and the NFT platform for Social Good Metagood, they were able to secure the famous icon of Afghan refugees, Sharbat Gula.

Background: Six weeks ago, Bonnie McCurry contacted Future Brilliance founder, impact pioneer and investor Sophia Swire, who has 30 years of experience empowering women in Afghanistan. She told Sophia that Sharbat Gula wanted to be evacuated with her family. After considering all country options, they confirmed to Sharbat that his family hoped to seek asylum in Italy. Sophia and her team activated the Future Brilliance network in Afghanistan and, together with the McCurry family, organized the necessary paperwork, visas and logistics.

The NFT platform for good Metagood (which worked with McCurry to exhibit his latest work at COP26) funded this effort which was raised with the highly successful sale of his NFT collection, OnChainMonkey. Metagood will work with Steve and Bonnie McCurry to raise additional funds from the crypto community for Sharbat Gula and his family’s relocation to Italy through the sale of NFT in 2022.
