Home and apartment bitcoin mining is currently enjoying a surge in popularity, as bitcoins recognize all the positive spinoffs of home mining – home heating, greenhouse projects, and just doing it. part of the bitcoin revolution.
A number of companies, including Compass Mining, Kaboomracks and Scott Offord, have stepped in to try to meet the growing demand. Upstream Data is releasing its new Black Box designed for home mining and will begin shipping in early December.
Many enthusiastic and potential home miners, coupled with delays in the supply chain, have supported sales, leading companies to warn of long delays in delivery times.
Kaboomrocks, based in Houston, TX, is currently advising customers that it will assume longer delivery times of 4 and 5 weeks.
In a recent interview with Bitcoin Magazine, Kaboomracks VP Nick Foster told us:
“We are very overwhelmed. We have more orders placed per day than we can process per day. We are working and hiring to resolve these issues. Often times, we run out of orders because we can’t close all the sales fast enough. “
Kaboomracks debuted in 2017 selling used ASICs. Most of their sales were to start-ups. Now, Foster estimates that 50% of his sales are currently made at retail for possible home mining.
To help increase ASIC’s supply, they continued and expanded their used ASIC sales line, says Foster:
“We have acquired a few warehouses and are able to inspect equipment, test equipment and even refurbish equipment. As a complement to our remanufacturing process, we began to take charge of the equipment ourselves and then retail it to customers in small quantities. It is one of our least profitable but most reputable businesses from a public relations perspective.
Supply chain issues
The combination of high demand and supply chain issues keeps Kaboomracks on their toes. An expert prediction on the return to normalcy of supply chains is for the end of 2022.
Foster sees international shipping backlogs continue until early next year and understands the frustrations of other companies trying to meet their commitments to their customers.
“It’s quite common to have wasted lead times as many manufacturers don’t really have a lot of penalties for shipping delays combined with an international shipping nightmare, it’s pretty hard to hit any goal. expected, “he said.
Access ASICs
Kaboomracks has been able to handle better than some and Foster credits his company’s approach from 2017, stating:
“Kaboomracks has really been a grassroots organization that grows slowly and steadily. “
In recent years, they have been able to make contacts in large manufacturing companies and now have privileged access to purchase large quantities.
“We also use trusted partners in China to give us access to small quantities of rare and unique machines and machines,” Foster said.
Foster said they found MicroBT and Bitmain to be “incredibly reliable”. In addition, he told us:
“A lot of home miners like to buy an older generation machine from 2017, which is the Bitmain antminer S9. There are several reasons for this; it is sized appropriately for the existing circuitry inside. a home, it has abundant firmware support from third-party vendors that brought the machine back to life, such as vnish and braiins, and it’s one of the only miners to come with a 120V power supply. This means that you don’t need to rewire your outlet in your home, as you could get started without even calling the electrician.
In a recent article, Econoalchemist describes a series of events that he says helped put home mining on people’s agenda.
What he calls “a small and modest home Bitcoin mining operation with the intention of averaging the dollar cost (DCAing) of non-KYC bitcoins through your utility bill.”
His thesis is that people are looking for non-KYC mining to balance the growing control of bitcoin by large institutions “opens the door to ESG initiatives, carbon credits and regulatory dangers that make me believe it is ‘an attack on Bitcoin’.
Foster isn’t so sure – he sees a lot of people interested in mining but not trying to spark a revolution.
“KYC is a concern for the home miner in certain situations. we usually log information but don’t definitively verify their identity, if someone bought a miner as a “mcminerface miner” i don’t think we would investigate that. The majority of our clients are businesses and are more than willing to share their accurate information, ”said Foster.
How does Kaboomracks see things going in the coming months?
“We just want to be able to support the deals if we get them done. The hardest part about it is avoiding scenarios where you replace the equipment. It’s very common in this industry to promise Model A and ship Model B, ”he told us.
