Embily USA, the US arm of European fintech company Embily, has joined Visa’s Fintech Fast Track program. Emily’s reloadable debit card, which can be topped up with bitcoin and used to pay for goods and services around the world, will launch in the United States next year.
“By joining Visa’s Fast Track program, exciting Fintechs like Embily USA gain unprecedented access to Visa experts, technology and resources,” said Terry Angelos, SVP and Global Head of Fintech at Visa, in a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine. “Fast Track allows us to deliver new resources that fast growing businesses need to scale efficiently. “
The move will give the company access to Visa’s payment network and allow faster onboarding times, accelerating the scale-up of its business model.
“This card is currently available in almost every country except the United States,” Joe Sasenick, CEO of Emily USA, told Bitcoin Magazine. “We have a Euro Embily card that serves almost all regions of the world and a few other entities that we are developing to provide this service to as many countries as possible. Embily USA, Inc. expects a product to be fully launched in the first quarter of 2022. ”
Embily will be available to US customers as a physical or digital prepaid card that can be loaded with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The funds are then liquidated using a third-party exchange, after which they are ready to be spent wherever Visa is accepted, online and offline. Users can also withdraw money at any ATM with their debit card.
Sasenick declined to comment on the third-party exchange used by his company, saying it was the one that “has the most cash.”
“I don’t want to break any security protocols by responding in detail to the flow of money and the people we use, but it’s one or more exchanges that have a neutral or positive reputation in the space,” Sasenick said. “We will be happy to announce it once things are finalized.”
Sasenick said he joined Embily after connecting with founder Alexander Bychkov as a client. He enlisted as a business partner in the United States, ultimately leading Emily’s expansion into the country as CEO of Emily USA.
