It may seem like a long time ago now – after all, time strangely flies in a pandemic – but the craze for Reddit, Wall Street and crypto was a legitimate global event that changes the world.
Reddit posted its year-end recap blog on Wednesday and confirmed that, yes, this is a huge moment for the social platform. The three most voted posts of 2021 related to the Reddit community’s efforts on stocks and crypto. The most voted post of the year was on the r / wallstreetbets subreddit and showed a billboard in Times Square promoting GameStop stock. The next two posts in the top three? Also from r / wallstreetbets.
Here are the five most voted posts, according to Reddit.

In case you forgot, the Reddit community – primarily the r / wallstreetbets subreddit – has sparked a massive upheaval in how typical Wall Street works. By focusing on stocks like GameStop, AMC and others, the redditors essentially outperformed the massive hedge funds that had bet against these companies. This craze of ordinary people massively affecting the economy led to a crypto boom, where even the wacky cryptocurrency called Dogecoin soared.
But, as Reddit pointed out, it wasn’t just stocks and cryptos on the site. His year-end video showed a bunch of viral moments from 2021.
Ask Me Anythings aka AMA is also an extremely popular section of Reddit. Basically, redditors can ask people whatever they want. The most popular of the year, according to the company, was that of a lobster diver who was swallowed by a whale, Bill Gates, and executive producer of the Bethesda games.
Reddit also shared the most popular posts and biggest moments for things like sports, music, and TV. (Shocker: Marvel and Star Wars are both popular and divisive.) You can check out the full post here.
But as the company wrote, “the most notable moments on Reddit were when redditors took their comments, camaraderie, conversations and more from URL to IRI.” There was no better example than the financial system shattered by some people with internet connection, online friends and free time.
