In recent times, the Ethereum network has received a lot of criticism regarding data transfer fees and the scalability of the protocol. In a blog post titled “Endgame,” published on December 6, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin discussed plans to improve scaling, the next transition from proof-of-stake, and resistance to censorship.
Buterin describes plausible roadmap for scaling Ethereum in Endgame blog post
Vitalik Buterin, the prominent co-founder of the Ethereum project, laid out his thoughts on a “plausible roadmap” that could solve network scaling issues. The blog post titled “Endgame” explains a few concepts like a “second tier of staking with low resource requirements” and the introduction of evidence of fraud or Zk-Snarks where ETH users can “inexpensively »Acquire block validity. The roadmap that Buterin sums up aims to improve blockchain without giving up resistance to censorship.
“What did we get after all this?” Buterin asks in his latest blog post. “We get a chain where block production is still centralized, but block validation is trustless and highly decentralized, and specialized anti-censorship magic keeps block producers from censoring. Buterin adds:
It’s a bit ugly aesthetically, but it does provide the basic guarantees we’re looking for: even if each of the major players (the block producers) intends to attack or censor, the worse they go. can do is disconnect entirely, in which case the chain stops accepting transactions until the community consolidates its resources and sets up an honest head node.
Buterin discusses a roadmap focused on Ethereum rollup, large blockchains and cross-domain VPDs
Buterin’s recent blog post follows discussions that took place in late November when Ethereum developers discussed concepts like EIP-4488. The plan could cut data transfer costs five times less, and Ethereum developer Tim Beiko shared his thoughts on EIP-4488 and reducing stacking costs. In the Endgame blog post, Buterin also spoke about the use of stacks and the “possible long-term future” of this technology.
“Ethereum is very well positioned to adapt to this future world, despite the inherent uncertainty,” Buterin points out. “The main advantage of the Ethereum rollup-centric roadmap is that it means that Ethereum is open to all futures and does not have to commit to a win-win opinion.” Buterin added:
Ethereum researchers should give serious thought to what levels of decentralization of block production are actually achievable. It might not be worth adding complicated plumbing to facilitate highly decentralized block production if cross-domain SRM (or even inter-shard SRM from a rollup taking multiple shards) makes it unsustainable. Nevertheless.
In terms of “big blockchains,” Buterin says, “there’s a way for them to turn into something trustless and censorship-resistant, and we’ll soon find out if their core developers and communities value resistance enough to it. censorship and decentralization so they can do it. ” Buterin’s blog post ends by saying, “It will probably take years for all of this to unfold.”
“Data availability sharding and sampling are complex technologies to implement. It will take years of refinement and audits for people to become fully comfortable storing their assets in a ZK stack running a full EVM, ”concludes Buterin’s post on Endgame. “And cross-domain MEV research is still in its infancy. But it seems increasingly clear how a realistic but bright future for scalable blockchains is likely to emerge. “
