Crypto Coin: The Sporting Slice

[ad_1]

Every Sunday, we sit down to showcase the latest sports and crypto crossover headlines from last week with The Sports Slice. This week has welcomed many existing players in space who have decided to go deeper into the rabbit hole. Who could blame them? People like DraftKings and Adidas, who were already getting involved in the blockchain and crypto community, are showing an interest in digging deeper. The gaming community, however, has been less receptive to Ubisoft’s latest announcement.

Let’s look at all of these actions, and more, from the last seven days.

The Sports Slice DraftKings doubles on the NFT market

In July, sports betting company DraftKings entered the NFT atmosphere, announcing plans to launch an NFT ecosystem and exchange, through a partnership with Tom Brady’s Autograph.io. In October, DraftKings made the headlines again, this time for a new partnership with the ecological Polygon blockchain.

DraftKings is back this week, announcing a new partnership with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) in a deal that will grant the name, image and likeness rights to DraftKings for use in its NFT marketplace, from of the next football season. DraftKings said they will use these rights to create a new fantasy-style game in which users play one-on-one with NFT players.

We haven’t seen any major integration of fantasy sports and crypto yet, but it looks like it’s definitely on the way.

The signs are coming down

Staples Center is a thing of the past. It’s been less than a month since we first reported Crypto.com’s massive new naming rights deal with one of the most recognizable sites in Los Angeles. The owner of the AEG building and the crypto exchange appear to be on the right track on schedule, as early press reports indicated the partners expected to have new Crypto.com signage on the front of the building from here. the day of Christmas. Now, in less than two weeks, Staples’ signage is down and the new signage appears to be on its way.

Christmas Day has always been a huge day for the NBA, with games all day long. The timely move could put Crypto.com’s public brand identity back in the spotlight by the end of the year.

The game hesitates: Tezos and Ubisoft

Ubisoft is one of the biggest video game developers to integrate crypto, partnering with Tezos to launch some NFTs under what the company calls “Ubisoft Quartz.” Quartz will release three NFTs, called Digits, for the title Ubisoft Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

However, the move saw a less than ideal response from the gaming community. Quartz’s trailer saw huge dislikes on YouTube. While some outlets reported that the trailer was subsequently taken off the listing, others noted that the video was simply posted as unlisted from the start and was not adjusted after the negative comments. Discord has decided to take a break after seeing a massive push back from consumers on crypto integration, so don’t be too surprised if Ubisoft follows suit.

Gaming and crypto, while appearing to be an endemic adjustment, have seen quite a bit of friction from the mainstream gaming community. Expect this to be a long climb, at least until gamers start reaping real rewards from integrating blockchain into video game titles.

Crypto and gaming, despite rigid reactions, are still a perfect fit when it comes to partnerships. This week, one of the largest esports content organizations and umbrellas, FaZe Clan, found a new crypto partner in MoonPay. FaZe members had previously made headlines for promoting questionable crypto projects that turned into rugpulls.

This week, MoonPay becomes the organization’s official crypto and NFT partner, in a deal that will integrate MoonPay brand assets into FaZe content starting next year.

Baron Davis to abandon NFT “Black Santa”

Former NBA hooper Baron Davis has been studying crypto for some time now, showing a genuine interest in emerging technologies for many years. Now the basketball legend is teaming up with Crypto.com to release his own NFT ‘Black Santa Holiday Collection’. Davis created Black Santa as a way to “give children a magical world of endless possibilities filled with enchantment, adventure and positive colored characters while communicating the importance of giving all year round.”

Athletes like Davis continue to push the fold when it comes to sports and crypto, showing initiative to build a better future of sports engagement for the next generation. NFTs will drop on December 17th at crypto.com/NFT.
