Kevin Lee will be paid exclusively in Bitcoin for Eagle FC fights

Kevin Lee’s four-fight contract with Eagle FC will be paid to him exclusively through the Bitcoin cryptocurrency.

After being paid in cash during his long UFC career, Lee will take a unique path to launch his partnership with Eagle FC.

Lee’s deal with Eagle FC was first announced on Wednesday. His signing came just over a week after his UFC career ended abruptly. The promotion would have removed him from his roster at the end of November, ending a series of 18 fights in the Octagon.

Lee described his new contract as a lucrative first in the sport.

“To be the first MMA fighter to have a contract worth millions of dollars in Bitcoin, the first one attracted me,” Lee said in an interview with The MMA Hour.

Part of Lee’s interest in cryptocurrency is due to how it has helped him before. Lee described in his interview how an investment he made in Bitcoin four years ago allowed him to make money as he suffered from injuries last year.

“After my fight with Tony [Ferguson], I invested in Bitcoin all the way back then. Honestly, when I had the knee surgeries it saved me a **. Because I forgot about this money, but when Bitcoin exploded it gave me money to live on. So that’s something I really believe in and that will honestly be the great future. “

Lee’s new contract is part of a slow growing trend seen around the sport. NFL player Sean Culkin announced earlier this year that he will have a contract paid exclusively in Bitcoin. He is the first fighter in NFL history to do so.
