Flori Marquez – co-founder of cryptocurrency custodian BlockFi – expects FOMO to be the main factor driving digital asset adoption next year. She concluded that the other two elements will be the transfer of talent from traditional industries to the crypto sector and regulatory clarity.
FOMO will be a “great driver”
In a recent interview for Yahoo Finance, Flori Marquez – co-founder of BlockFi and senior vice president of operations – believed that the digital asset industry has grown to a level that many people in the United States will experience. Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) in 2022. This will become an important factor for many investors to enter the market for the first time and thus accelerate the adoption of crypto:
“We’re going to see more consumers across the United States entering the space for the first time. And I think a huge pilot will be FOMO.
Marquez noted that people are much more open to bitcoin and altcoins today than they were five years ago. For example, she claims that one in 10 Americans plan to give digital assets this year as a Christmas present to relatives or friends, while 2/3 prefer to talk about cryptocurrencies.
“And I think crypto has become a little more digestible for the average consumer than it was five years ago.”

According to Marquez, the second thing that will drive adoption next year is “talent change.” She says the pandemic has caused many experts to quit their previous posts and seek more prosperous employment opportunities.
The BlockFi boss believes cryptocurrency-related companies and fintech companies are interesting options, as both areas present long-term solutions:
“And honestly, crypto and fintech have been a huge draw for people looking to learn something new and grow their careers. So I think we’re going to see more talent shifting from other more traditional industries to the crypto and fintech sector.
Regulations will be beneficial
The last thing that could guide crypto adoption over the next 12 months is the creation and implementation of a comprehensive regulatory framework on the industry. Marquez believes that if the American watchdogs can fix the problem, investors and businesses would feel much more protected entering the market.
This is also the opinion of Michael Saylor. Not too long ago, the CEO of MicroStrategy said that clarity in space will positively affect bitcoin and alternative coins, while institutional adoption picks up speed soon after. He concluded that setting the right rules could even reduce BTC’s volatility and increase its popularity with the general public:
“There is a need for clarity. Crypto regulations and clarity in the industry would reduce volatility in the bitcoin space and increase public confidence in bitcoin. “
