As the world looks set to jump its feet in the cryptocurrency world, Amazon is poised to step up and step into the scene and launch its own crypto token in 2022.
Details at this point are not yet clear, but it looks like Amazon is in the process of setting up a blockchain in preparation for launching its own digital currency.
An article published by FinTech Magazine confirmed that the company had posted a job posting for a new ‘head of digital currency and blockchain’.
What is Amazon looking for?
The job posting suggests that Amazon is looking for an “experienced product manager to develop Amazon’s digital currency and blockchain strategy and product roadmap.”
The move is believed to be a direct response to increased competition from other tech giants like Meta / Facebook who have recruited their own team of experts to create a blockchain concept.
Google also recently formed a partnership with Bakkt, paving the way for the acceptance of crypto in its Google Pay app.
When is Amazon launching its crypto token?
2022 is expected to be the year that Amazon launches its own cryptocurrency, but there have not been clear details on the exact date of the year.
It is expected that customers will be able to use the Amazon Crypto Token when shopping on the Amazon website, although it is also unclear how long it will take to implement it.
Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are still in their infancy and there is still a lot of room for further improvements, especially in terms of ease of use.
Amazon has actually looked at such a project in the past, previously offering roles to blockchain experts, although the projects are considerably more low-key than the one enveloping the Amazon Crypto Token at the time.
Amazon calls its blockchain “Amazon Managed Blockchain” and already provides a lot of information about the concept on its website.
