The price of Bitcoin (BTC) may have fluctuated this year, but BTC remains a better game than the biggest crypto stocks.
New data currently circulating shows that despite all the growth in the industry surrounding Bitcoin, it is still profitable to buy and hold.
Stocks fail to compete with BTC, ETH
Looking at the stock market performance of companies with the largest BTC allocations on their balance sheets, it immediately becomes evident that it was more profitable to hold BTC than those stocks – at least this year.
“Buying crypto stocks to outperform coins is difficult,” commented Three Arrows Capital CEO Zhu Su alongside comparative performance data from Bloomberg.
Bitcoin and Ether (ETH) fared much better than the stocks of companies such as MicroStrategy (MSTR) and Coinbase (COIN), despite the successes of both in 2021.

The numbers highlight the differences between traditional and crypto markets, the latter having a degree of freedom of speech long absent from stocks, commodities and other assets.
“The markets are looking to the future. Crypto even more because it is not under anyone’s control. It’s the only free market in the world, ”noted popular trader and analyst Pentoshi earlier this month.
For retail entities in particular, a dollar cost averaging strategy involving an allocation in BTC, mitigating short-term volatility, therefore looks all the more appealing.
Miners fight BTC
Other data from the largest publicly traded mining companies supports this trend.

Compared to their inception and even their stock price at the time of their IPO, the vast majority are significantly lower in terms of BTC.
Only BitFarms (BITF) is currently making a profit in December.

Nonetheless, the extent of progress among participants in the US mining industry has been revealing, and as Cointelegraph has reported, listing deals continue to flow.
Texas, which is looking to become a mining mecca, could see demand for electricity increase several times over by next year.
