The Bitcoin bull in front of software intelligence firm MicroStrategy, Michael Saylor, reportedly disclosed a personal bitcoin stash worth $ 866 million.
According to a report by Markets Insider, Saylor said in an interview with The Information in November that besides his publicly listed company’s goal of accumulating bitcoin, he also had similar goals. The CEO is said to own at least 17,732 bitcoins.
Saylor has never sold any of his bitcoin, and in general he “doesn’t think you should sell your bitcoin,” according to the report. The CEO of MicroStrategy has reportedly said he envisions a bitcoin price of $ 6 million per coin in the future, a 12,000% increase from current levels.
Saylor has been outspoken about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, most notoriously drawing a dividing line between the two. In a November Twitter Spaces hosted by Bitcoin Magazine, the CEO denounced the standard recommendation to “diversify” investments.
In August 2020, Saylor’s software business bought a quarter of a million dollars worth of bitcoin, turning the peer-to-peer (P2P) currency into its primary cash reserve asset. The company has since made several new purchases, taking advantage of cash flow, debt, and equity, while also benefiting from bitcoin declines as it ramps up and acquires BTC at a discount. MicroStrategy’s latest purchase was made earlier this month, when it bought $ 82 million worth of bitcoin. He currently holds around 122,478 BTC.
In an interview with ETF Think Tank in August 2021, Michael Saylor explained the main purpose of his business, to buy and hold bitcoin itself. The CEO said they have no plans to embark on yield strategies such as bitcoin-backed loans despite the practice’s yields of around 5% per annum. “I think the counterparty risk is significant,” he said. More recently, however, Saylor alluded to the possibility that MicroStrategy could take advantage of some alternative strategies to generate return.
