Mac Jones, the sensation of the rookie quarterback and the 9-5 New England Patriots’ best hope to extend their decades-long dynasty in the National Football League (NFL), is offering Bitcoin to his entire offensive line this Christmas.
“I have been studying Bitcoin for quite some time now. This year, I just knew I had to donate Bitcoin to my teammates, ”Jones said. “So I contacted Bitcoin Magazine and asked for help on how to give Bitcoin as a gift.”
Mac Jones then contacted another Alabama alumnus and Bitcoin magazine CEO David Bailey. In addition to Bitcoin, Jones and Bailey decided to donate the financial education resource of a print subscription to Bitcoin Magazine to the entire Patriots offensive line, as well as passes to the Bitcoin 2022 conference, which is expected to be the biggest Bitcoin event in history.
“When Mac told us he wanted to spread Bitcoin wealth for Christmas, we jumped at the chance to support him. Our mission is to make Bitcoin the de facto money of humanity, which means integrating it into our popular culture. Bitcoin is for everyone, but the courageous, optimistic and forward-thinking people who see the future are the ones who embrace Bitcoin and share this important message, ”Bailey said.
With the news, Jones becomes the first NFL quarterback to donate Bitcoin in a ritual that’s now a tradition among elite players in America’s most-watched sports league. Quarterbacks often go the extra mile to give back to their teammates, as a happy and dedicated offensive line is what protects them from an attack from attacking tacklers.
In 2020, NFL quarterbacks gave their teammates a range of unique gifts, from Pacman arcade games to custom paintings.
However, with his choice of gift, purchased through Swan Private, the janitorial division of the popular Bitcoin Swan buying service, Jones is showing foresight to help protect his offensive line’s finances in the long run.
“He did a remarkable job. We had a big hit here,” veteran center / guard Ted Karras told reporters on Friday in a video press conference.
“One of the best efforts, especially from a rookie, to show appreciation and wish us a Merry Christmas,” Karras said. “So very grateful to him and very happy to be his teammate here this Christmas season.”
In total, Jones is offering Bitcoin to 12 Patriots members, including David Andrews, Trent Brown, Yodny Cajuste, Yasir Durant, James Ferentz, Justin Herron, Ted Karras, Shaq Mason, Mike Onwenu, Alex Redmond, Will Sherman and Isaiah Wynn.
All will now own Bitcoin for the first time, joining the 46 million Americans who own Bitcoin or some form of cryptocurrency, according to the Pew Research Center.
This may turn out to be a good time because despite the recent cooling of Bitcoin in the fourth quarter, Bitcoin is still up 107% on the year (compared to just 27% for the larger S&P). Not to mention that over the past decade, these gains are even more astounding, with Bitcoin rising more than 1,100,000% over this period.
Jones and his offensive line will receive Bitcoin via the Swan Black Card, a new offer that allows users to claim Bitcoin directly with the help of a concierge service. Notably, Jones and Swan both had stellar November months, with the former named NFL Rookie of the Month and the latter raising $ 6 million in a Series A round.
Cory Klippsten, CEO of Swan Bitcoin, commented, “Our mission at Swan is to create 10 million new Bitcoiners, not just people who own Bitcoin, but people who understand how important it is. This is why we are so focused on education and the world. Classy service Our Swan Private concierge team is very happy to partner with Mac and his team on their Bitcoin journey.
Embracing the promise of Bitcoin, Jones follows a line of football greats who have started owning Bitcoin or taking their wages in cryptocurrency, including Odell Beckham Jr., Saquon Barkley, Aaron Rodgers and the reigning MVP of the Super Bowl Tom Brady, in the footsteps of who Jones follows in New England.
Bitcoin and crypto exchanges FTX and Crypto.com both bought advertisements for Super Bowl LVI 2022, which means that in February, Bitcoin could gain greater visibility on the national stage.
Time will tell if Jones and his upstart Patriots will be on the field for the game. Either way, they’ll be attending the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami in April as special guests.
