Gensler appeals to Senate aide to provide advice on crypto oversight

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced Thursday that Corey Frayer, Senior Senate Assistant, will serve as senior advisor on crypto-related issues.

In a press release issued Thursday, the US securities regulator presented Frayer’s work as being focused on “SEC policy-making and interagency work relating to the oversight of crypto assets.” Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Frayer had been selected for the role.

Prior to joining the SEC, Frayer worked as a senior executive on the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee under the leadership of Senator Sherrod Brown. Prior to that, he was Senior Advisor to Representative Maxine Waters on the House Financial Services Committee.

“Corey, Phil, Jenny and Jorge have an exceptional experience,” Gensler said in a brief statement. “I have already begun to rely on their valuable guidance on policy, enforcement and agency operations, and I look forward to continuing our work together to fulfill the mission of the SEC.

Gensler took office in April and has since sought to establish crypto and digital assets as a top regulatory area for the SEC. In September, he said he wanted to introduce crypto “as part of public policy.”
