Benyamin Ahmed got involved in NFT this year after hearing how one of his father’s friends bought one for $ 27,000 (£ 20,000). NFTs are digital assets such as images with a unique certificate of ownership. He explained, “I immediately became fascinated that he was willing to spend so much money on a JPEG.” Benyamin had already learned coding from an early age and began to research how to create NFTs and how they were traded. Benyamin started by making a selection of 40 Minecraft themed characters that he tried to sell on the OpenSea online marketplace.
Unfortunately, this first attempt did not sell, but Benyamin says the experience has taught him a lot about how the NFT space and OpenSea work.
Its big breakthrough, however, came with the launch of its Weird Whales NFT.
Benyamin, from north London, explained how he came across a radiologist on Twitter who was interested in NFTs. He shared a script with him that allowed him to generate his own collection of pixelated whale-themed NFTs.
He explained, “I posted a thread on Twitter about how I was able to do it and the thread exploded, went viral even though I only had 50 followers.
“I think maybe it was because big NFT influencers like this radiologist I met, he retweeted it, and a lot of people were buying these whales, showing them on Twitter and people hooking up with them. my story.”
The first sale closed in nine hours, leaving Benyamin $ 160,000 (£ 118.91,000).
However, he currently does not have a bank account – and holds all proceeds in cryptocurrency.
Benyamin has made over $ 1million (£ 740,000) in NFT and crypto investments so far.
His father, Imran, who taught Benyamin how to code, described him as “one of the biggest pushes.”
Imran said: “He got a little bit of knowledge from me, then he went snooping on OpenSea himself, then he met this radiologist from South Africa.
“He’s not a friend of mine, I only met him after the collection went viral and he made so much money, he says’ yes I spoke to your son over the years. last days and weeks to tell him how to build this collection ‘. “
Benyamin explained that community is the key to success in NFTs.
Benyamin said, “Mine went viral mainly because of my age, but if you look at all the other amazing NFT collections that are doing really well, they’ve built a strong community behind them and ready to support them.”
Interested in coding from a young age, Benyamin now hopes to encourage other young people to explore work in financial technology (FinTech).
He’s working with the Work in Fintech group to release an NFT collection to corporate sponsors, using the money to create online courses, work experience, and virtual internships.
This year, Benyamin became the youngest person to give a guest lecture at Pembroke College, Oxford, detailing his experiences.
After the interview, the event organizer contacted Benyamin to tell him that many people had contacted him afterwards to tell him that they were not even aware of what was going on and that they would investigate further.

While few classmates share an interest in NFTs, Benyamin predicts that in the future cryptocurrencies and assets will be taught from an early age.
Imran also believes that the younger generations will help drive the change.
Imran said, “They don’t want to invest in stocks that give you a five percent return.”
“When we invest in the stock market, we are usually the last money on the table.
“Initially, angel investors get involved, VC (venture capital) investors get involved, and they take all the risks, but they also take all the benefits as the crypto flips it.
“It allows retail to be the first money on the table.”
For the creators of NFT, Benyamin advises, “There are a lot of online resources that I have learned from, there are some amazing videos on crypto, Web3, NFT. “
Most importantly, he advised people to follow what they like, adding, “Always do what you like and don’t try to copy what someone else is doing.”
