Avira introduces cryptocurrency miner to antivirus

Avira Crypto is an additional feature of the Avira Free Antivirus suite (also known as Avira Free Security) which allows users to use the computer to mine Ethereum cryptocurrency (ETH).

The developers of the software boast that the feature allows you to safely save on the unused computing power of the computer. The funds collected can be transferred from your Avira Crypto wallet to your Coinbase account.

Excavator antivirus is not necessarily a good idea

Avira Antivirus users have to agree to activate the excavator, but the introduction of such a feature remains a rather controversial decision. Some users suggest that antivirus software should detect and block minors, not promote them.

It should be added that Avira Antivirus from Avira Crypto can be detected as potentially dangerous for your computer.

Why did the developers decide to introduce an excavator? One can only suspect. Avira charges a commission on mining (but it does not provide exact information on the amount of the commission). Since the software is very popular (the creators have around 500 million users), such a feature can be a great business idea.

It should be added that some time ago a similar function was also introduced in the Norton 360 package … which has the same owner as Avira (NortonLifeLock company). In Norton’s case, the creators take a commission of 15% of the income.
