A report by Input magazine titled “My Fortune Cookie Told Me to Invest in Dogecoin” shows that a Bahamian-based “Crypto and NFT wallet company” called FTX is advertising fortune cookies.
“Have you ever waited too long and missed something?” A fortune reads. When you turn it over, you see an advertisement for the crypto company FTX.
“This is presumably a family-run restaurant that just wanted to replenish its supplies of fortune cookies for customers and not push a decentralized financial agenda.
Yet, it’s hundreds, if not thousands of classifieds that are showing to diners every month, which is an infuriating and stupid meme economy. Considering our current era of cryptocurrency, riddled with scams and speculation, it’s sort of ridiculous to see these kinds of “fortunes” close to my Sichuan Chicken. Add to all that the serious environmental concerns arising from the crypto industry, and my Dogecoin dessert just seems… bafflingly dystopian. “

Even before a cookie message started generating altcoins, it wasn’t particularly genuine. Fortune cookies have a murky origin history, but have come to be known as a decidedly American treat.
