At this point in the game, it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that celebrities of all walks of life and of all temperaments are entering crypto. Lindsey Lohan peddles furry NFTs, and United Talent Agency, an organization that typically represents human artists, recently signed contracts with Larva Labs NFT CryptoPunks, Meebits, and Autoglyphs. It’s a whole new world. Still, it’s a pleasure to read dispatches from people you never thought would be interested in blockchain. Object of fascination today? Reese Witherspoon, an actress known for her sunny temper and commitment to layered, funny and ultimately straight characters.
“In the (near) future, each person will have a parallel digital identity,” the Legally Blonde star soberly tweeted on Tuesday. You have to admit, it’s pretty funny to imagine Witherspoon addressing his followers with all the seriousness of Mark Zuckerberg. “Avatars, crypto wallets, digital products will be the norm. Are you considering this? It seems that Witherspoon certainly did; at the very least, she got some wise advice from tech mogul friends that she almost certainly has.
Crypto is here to stay. I pledge to support the creators who pioneered the NFT space and encourage more women to join the conversation. https://t.co/tq9EdwAmJC

When it comes to cryptocurrency and NFTs, some celebrities have latched onto the artistic side of the emerging phenomenon, while others seem to be interested purely because of financial opportunities. Gwyneth Paltrow, a marketer of all kinds of wellness products, recently posted sponsored content on Instagram that seems to be a harbinger of a lot to come.
“Participating in the cryptocurrency world has seemed exclusive to me, especially for women,” Paltrow wrote in December as part of a CashApp promotion. “I was on a show called Planet of the Apps in 2017, and it was my first real experience learning crypto and blockchain, but it took a few years for me to feel comfortable to buy Bitcoin. ” Notice how Paltrow humbles himself with this caption: “It’s okay,” she seems to be telling her audience, “I know this stuff is confusing. Even I, your fearless leader, I had to. wrong with the concept at first, but now is the time to engage! ”
Call it the Girlbossification of Crypto. By fully evangelizing all the possibilities that the digital space offers, these celebrities are encouraging women to let go of their doubts about the environmental impact and boys’ club Discord servers and to create a MetaMask portfolio. Is this a bad thing? Not exactly. But it’s a fun one-dimensional and maybe inevitable strategy.
Conversely, upon reflection, it’s incredibly easy to imagine Elle Woods, arguably Witherspoon’s most iconic character, stepping into Bitcoin to upset a guy in an upcoming Legally Blonde sequel. Imagine her skillfully navigating the Kryptex app while a loser watches in shock: “What, like that’s hard?”
