Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) had its worst performance in 2021 of the past three years. And the cryptocurrency beat out most stocks again, with its price soaring over 60%.
But Bitcoin has had a rocky start so far this year. Don’t be surprised if the digital coin trails a few stocks over the next 12 months. Here are three unstoppable stocks, in particular, that can beat Bitcoin in 2022.

1. Innovative industrial properties
Of course, shares of Innovative Industrial Properties (NYSE:IIPR) have fallen far more than the price of Bitcoin so far this year. However, I suspect the slowdown will only be temporary. IIP’s business is stronger than ever.
The cannabis-focused real estate investment trust (REIT) added 28 new properties in the fourth quarter of 2021. IIP now owns 103 properties in 19 states. All properties are leased to cannabis operators.
While Bitcoin’s fortunes are entirely subject to the whims of investors, IIP has much more control over its stock’s performance. If the company can find more properties to buy and rent, its profits will likely continue to grow. And if its earnings increase enough, its share price will almost certainly increase as well.
This seems like an easy task for IIP to accomplish. There are 17 other states that have legalized cannabis in one form or another where the company does not currently operate. IIP also has many growth opportunities in its existing markets.
Perhaps the biggest threat to IPI is that major federal cannabis reform will be enacted, which will attract more competition.
2. PayPal Credits
The shift to digital payments definitely ranks as an unstoppable trend. PayPal Holdings (NASDAQ: PYPL) is a leading digital payments leader with 75% of the top 1,500 retailers in North America and Europe backing its digital wallet. This makes PayPal an unstoppable stock, in my opinion.
Granted, PayPal didn’t look unstoppable last year. Its shares plunged 19% during a bull market for most stocks. A big part of the problem was that the company’s revenue growth slowed compared to 2020. But that shouldn’t have come as a surprise given the unusually large increase in online shopping with the pandemic shutdowns. ‘last year.
Wall Street’s consensus price target for PayPal stock reflects nearly 48% upside potential. I think it’s entirely possible that PayPal could make such an impressive gain in 2022.
PayPal’s Buy Now, Pay Later programs are expected to fuel growth. Amazon.com now supports Venmo for online purchases. New features in the PayPal app (including support for trading Bitcoin and a few other cryptocurrencies) are attracting users. PayPal could rebound significantly this year. And in the long term, the stock really should be unstoppable.
3. Viatris
If you thought PayPal was a dodgy candidate to beat Bitcoin, you’d probably really think Viatris (NASDAQ: VTRS) is overkill. After all, Viatris put in a disastrous performance last year, with its shares falling almost 28%. The company also operates in a boring, slow growing industry – biosimilars and generic drugs.
However, analysts predict that Viatris stock could climb more than 30% in 2022. The stock is already up by a double-digit percentage. Why? I think there are two main reasons.
First, the stock is very cheap. Viatris shares are trading at less than 3.4 times expected earnings. Investors realize that Viatris is unlikely to become much more attractive than it already is. They might believe that there is nowhere to go but for stock.
Second, boredom is beautiful when the stock market is volatile. Investors are turning to stocks of companies considered to be relatively stable and safe. Viatris does the trick. The biosimilars and generic drugs it sells should enjoy steady demand for the most part, regardless of what the stock market is doing.
My view is that this “no risk” mentality is the biggest risk for Bitcoin in 2022. However, it presents a tremendous opportunity for Viatris.
