It wasn’t just a bull run for prices last year. Crypto careers outpaced price action in 2021, as crypto job searches soared 395% in the US alone, according to LinkedIn.
Above all, the crypto industry has overtaken the broader technology industry, which has also seen remarkable development, almost doubling its number of job openings. However, with a 98% growth, the tech industry is shrinking compared to crypto jobs, which have gained 395%.
Additionally, no industry was immune to “crypto-ization” in 2021. The LinkedIn News post offered valuable insights into the influence of crypto on other industries:
While most job postings were in software and finance, other industries are also seeing an increase in demand for crypto talent. These include professional services like accounting and consulting, as well as the staffing and hardware sectors.
For 2022, the growth trend is expected to continue. The biggest crypto exchanges are full of job vacancies; Coinbase has over 250 job listings, Kraken has over 300, and the world’s most active exchange, Binance, lists over 600 job openings.
For Bitcoiners and Bitcoin (BTC) maximalists, there is a new resource – Bitcoiner jobs. A service dedicated to helping connect Bitcoiners with Bitcoin-only businesses, it now offers nearly 100 Satoshi-approved careers.
For those who can’t switch jobs in crypto, a broader HR trend is crypto compensation. The mayors of New York and Miami have announced that they will take part of their salaries in BTC in 2021, while seven NFL players have chosen crypto over cash salaries so far.

Still, while the crypto career move appears to be gaining momentum, the LinkedIn audience remains unconvinced. Most of the comments on the LinkedIn post came from bewildered viewers wondering why crypto has value, and one aggrieved editor protested the fraudulent nature of the industry.
Additionally, given that Bitcoin price action has yet to impress in 2022, the crypto industry may find it difficult to sustain such high levels of HR growth.
In the bear market of 2018, several cryptocurrency companies laid off staff. In short, BTC’s activity must resume to continue supporting job creation.
