OneWorld Crypto Scam Targets Multiple Sites on YouTube

The attack targeted YouTube crypto channels around the world and comes at a time when the cryptocurrency market is in turmoil

Several crypto influencers had their YouTube channels compromised on Sunday by hackers promoting a scam called “Oneworld Cryptocurrency”.

The attack targeted YouTube crypto chains around the world, including Ivan on Tech, Boxmining, Aantonop, TheMoonCarl, Bitboy Crypto, MMcrypto, Altcoinbuzio, Floyd Mayweather, CryptoBanter, and CoinmarketCap.

The scam comes at a time when the crypto market has taken a hit of more than $2 trillion since December, with Bitcoin and Ether trading at $34,839 and $2,395, respectively, at the time of this filing. report.

The Binance Smart Chain (BSC) token called “OneWorld Cryptocurrency” is also known as “OWCY”. BSC is a decentralized and open-source blockchain similar to Ethereum that was launched by the Binance crypto trading exchange in September 2020.

In a video uploaded to several YouTube accounts on Sunday, the scammers posted the pre-sale price per token and instructed crypto influencer subscribers to transfer money to a cryptocurrency address.

According to an Ether analytics report uploaded to Twitter by Crypto Banter – one of the compromised accounts – the hacker had accrued a relatively small amount to date, estimated at over $1,000.

Aditya Singh, who runs YouTube channel “CryptoIndia”, tweeted an alert after the hack was reported by several YouTubers. “Several crypto youtube channels have been compromised and are being used to promote a scam coin called One cryptocurrency. Please be careful,” he tweeted.

Sweden-based Carl Runefelt, who runs YouTube channel ‘The MoonCarl’, said he took down the video within 30 seconds of it being uploaded and posted a video asking subscribers not to fall for the scam .

“My Youtube channel was hacked today. Bitcoin cannot be hacked,” tweeted Runefelt, who has over 1.5 million social media followers.

“More than 20 crypto Youtubers I know have been affected by the same hack,” Runefelt told Asia Financial.

“It remains to be seen how this was possible on Youtube, because the platform uses two-factor authentication. This means you must have access to my gmail account. For such mass hacking to be possible and happening at the same time, we assume it could be an insider’s job.

YouTube has yet to release a statement on the incident as more details are awaited on the severity of the mass piracy.
