WACO, Texas (KWTX) — A recent survey by the Pew Research Center found that 90% of Americans have at least heard of cryptocurrency. Of that 90%, less than 20% have invested there, and some of those investors are here in central Texas.

Donny Hunter said he first heard about cryptocurrency seven or eight years ago, but couldn’t really dive into it back then. Hunter said everything changed in 2020, and now he has invested in several different types of cryptocurrency.

Hunter said that at that time he was looking for ways to make an income from his money and liked the idea of ​​something outside of the traditional banking system. He said cryptocurrency was a natural choice.

Hunter said he was involved in around 15 different coins, including G999, which along with the cryptocurrency is developing a telecommunications application.

Hunter said he likes to invest in companies that are also working on projects, like G999.

“One of the things I started looking for when I started investing in crypto was what was behind it,” Hunter said. “Does the project have some sort of function there, is there a product or service that’s there for long-term viability.”

Hunter said he knows there are risks to investing in cryptocurrency, but he likes the idea of ​​controlling his own investments, and that’s one of the most exciting things for him.

“That’s been the biggest driving force for me because I enjoy that,” Hunter said. “It’s more work because I can’t just call someone and say, place this money for me, I have to do it myself. If I’m wrong, well, then I’m wrong. Let’s go.”

Looking ahead, Hunter believes cryptocurrency and the technology behind it will continue to grow.

“Bitcoin and blockchain are going to revolutionize a lot of things we do in business, especially the blockchain aspect,” Hunter said. “And so for me, you know, I’m almost 74. That’s exciting. It’s one of the most exciting fun things I’ve done in the last four years, because it’s brand new technology. It’s a whole new area. »
