Basketball superstar LeBron James and his Akron, Ohio-based charity the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) are partnering with cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com.
The goal of the multi-year partnership, announced Friday, is to provide education and resources related to crypto and blockchain to underserved communities and to strengthen innovations and job opportunities in decentralized applications. These resources will be part of the LJFF curriculum at I PROMISE School, a public school created by the LJFF dedicated to helping students left behind in mainstream education.
“Blockchain technology is revolutionizing our economy, sports and entertainment, the art world and the way we interact with each other. I want to make sure that communities like the one I come from are not left behind,” James said in a statement. “Crypto.com and I are aligned on the need to educate and support my community with the information and tools they need for inclusion.”
James plays for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. Crypto.com struck other multi-year deals with Los Angeles-based teams such as Angel City Football Club, in addition to spending $700 million to rename the Los Angeles Staples Center – where the Lakers play – after itself .
