Project NFT Covers Texas Capital With Pro-Crypto Billboards

The founder of a website guiding readers through the digital asset market has launched a campaign in Austin to raise awareness of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, marketcap.guide founder Sam Feldman said he has rolled out more than 100 billboards in the Texas capital since July, each sharing a different message about Bitcoin (BTC), non-fungible tokens and other aspects of the crypto space. While the ads aim to encourage adoption, the funding for many of them comes from tokenizing billboard drone photos and selling the resulting NFT.

The project claims to have spent over $624,000 on existing billboards before fully launching NFT sales on Solana (SOL). According to Feldman, he plans to use 70% of the proceeds from the sales — bidding stands at $450 at press time — to fund future billboards, with the rest going to his team.

“It’s not just that we sell people a picture of a billboard,” Feldman said. “We’re asking people to believe in this idea of a self-fulfilling prophecy from billboards around the world where the more people who believe it, the more it happens and happens and the more awareness spreads .”

Austin is already home to a number of crypto and blockchain companies as well as tech companies like Tesla. With so many billboards placed around the city over the past seven months, many locals have taken notice, with mixed reactions.

“No one has to put up billboards saying ‘stock market is real’ or ‘gold is real’ or ‘real estate is real’ because they are, well, obviously real and have a intrinsic value,” said Redditor Jimatx. “If you have to buy billboards to convince people that your asset is real, then it might not be so real.”

Feldman said that although one of the display companies initially requested a disclaimer similar to that of a political ad, the way forward to post the pro-crypto messages was largely clear of regulatory hurdles. and legal. The marketcap.guide team may consider Miami and Los Angeles for the next billboard rollout depending on how the campaign works in Austin.

“Our goal is for this poster campaign to sow the seeds of understanding that there is actually something to crypto,” Feldman said. “These short messages […] help people think in a way that’s not too political, too timid.

Austin has slowly become a hub for many crypto companies looking for friendly regulators and lawmakers. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has previously hinted that he wants the state to follow Wyoming’s lead in passing more crypto-friendly legislation and becoming a “crypto leader” for BTC payments. Many crypto miners operating in Texas are temporarily shutting down in response to a winter storm passing through the state this week.
