The Tezos blockchain has reportedly agreed to a training kit sponsorship with Manchester United in a deal that will see the latter receive more than $27 million a year. This deal adds to the growing list of Tezos sports teams it has sponsored since May 2021.
Tezos investment in sports
The most successful football club in the English Premier League, Manchester United, has reportedly signed a training kit sponsorship deal with the Tezos blockchain. As part of the deal, Manchester United would receive more than $27m a year, or £20m. In exchange, Tezos will become the sponsor of the football club’s training kit.
According to a report by The Athletic, Tezos’ sponsorship deal with the 20-time English champions follows the end of Manchester United’s sponsorship deal with US insurance company Aon.
Tezos’ partnership with Manchester United, if confirmed, will become the blockchain company’s latest sponsorship of a sports entity. In May 2021, Tezos announced that it was sponsoring Major League Baseball team, the New York Mets. In the same month, reports also surfaced that Tezos had struck a deal to build Formula 1 (F1) team Red Bull Racing Honda’s “first NFT experience”.
Visibility on the front of the shirt
According to the report, Tezos is also the sponsor of McClaren Racing in three racing categories: F1, Indycar and Esports. Elsewhere in Europe, the blockchain entity recently became the technical partner of Team Vitality, a French esports organization. The deal, much like the reported deal between Tezos and Manchester United, gives the esports entity visibility on the front of the shirt.
Meanwhile, The Athletic reports that Manchester United and Tezos have failed or refused to comment on the reported sponsorship deal. The publication nevertheless suggests that the sponsorship deal will likely see the football club use the Tezos blockchain to leverage potentially beneficial emerging technologies like the Metaverse and Web3.
