Ukraine Solicits Crypto Donations Via Twitter — Addresses Confirmed As Real

With their federal reserve rapidly depleting, Ukraine asks for donations in crypto via their official Twitter. Note: If you are considering donating, please make sure you are only using the official addresses from the verified Ukranian Twitter account.

Ukraine’s official Twitter account tweeted out asking for donations in cryptocurrency. The government will accept donations in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT. Rumors instantly circulated that the addresses were compromised, however, they have since been debunked.

The source of the rumor was Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin. In a now deleted tweet, he told his 3.4 million followers to not send any crypto to the address “without verification.” Buterin added, “This info environment is as hostile as it gets, exercise extreme vigilance.” However, after confirming with some sources Buterin adjusted his messaging, but still urged caution. “Getting some confirmations from a couple sources that it’s legit. Deleting my warning for now. But continue to be vigilant, and always be slow and careful when sending irreversible crypto transactions.” Ukrainian ambassador Olek Scherba confirmed the legitimacy of the tweet and crypto addresses. “People are understandably cautious about donations. And Russians try to exploit it.” Ukraine legalized the use of cryptocurrency back in September 2021. Not to mention, it’s one of the country’s leading the race to a CBDC. Recently, Patreon suspended Come Back Alive’s account because it was soliciting donations to fund the Ukrainian military. Within 24 hours, the organization had received over $400,000 USD worth of crypto in donations. William LeGate, formerly of Everipedia, pointed out that, “Ukraine has already received more than $1 million worth of crypto donations from across the globe 🙌 (these addresses were just verified as legitimate) Much faster (and cheaper) way to get $$$ to Ukraine than int’l bank transfer!”
