Bitcoin is often the first example of a cryptocurrency people think of — because it was the first! But there are many other cryptocurrencies nowadays. Like, THOUSANDS (and more every day)! But what exactly is cryptocurrency?
What is Cryptocurrency?
Essentially, cryptocurrencies AKA Crypto allow you to exchange money WITHOUT using any third parties by using blockchain technology. The whole goal of cryptocurrencies is to put you in charge and make transactions quicker and more secure by removing traditional middlemen — like a bank.
Anyone—even you—can create a cryptocurrency. Doge coin was literally created as a joke and had an infinite supply, but it grew because people bought into it. So make sure to do your own research — in the crypto community people call this DYOR. Some cryptocurrencies are more trustworthy than others!
Crypto has many additional features beyond money, but remember, this is just an intro.
Clearly there’s a ton of buzz around crypto, and people are really excited about the future of it. BUT it’s still very new – so be smart and DYOR before diving into the crypto-sphere
