Super funds face dilemma over crypto investment

NSW Transport Minister David Elliott has urged the unions to stop disrupting the state’s transport network as bus drivers gave notice they would strike this Monday.

The bus strike follows a wave of strikes across hospitals, trains and schools in NSW over the past four months as workers stop work for higher wages and to protest against being overworked.

“It is disappointing that the unions have decided to take this action during the start of the school holidays,” Elliott said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

“Many small businesses will be relying on the patronage of families out and about during the holidays to help them recover and rebuild from the economic and social impacts of not only the pandemic but also the devastating impacts of the recent flood and weather events.

“I urge the unions to stop exploiting the state’s transport network for Labor’s political gain.”

Elliott stressed that pay talks for the bus drivers were a matter between them and private operators.

“The NSW government cannot intervene in the negotiating of enterprise agreements between private operators and their workers,” he said.

“Transport for NSW is working with the private operators to minimize the impact on commuters on Monday as a result of any industrial action by bus drivers.”

Drivers are striking in large part for “same job, same pay protections”, with some drivers paid substantially less than others operating the same routes.
