AMARAVATI: The YSRCP leadership was stunned when the party’s official Twitter account suddenly started promoting cryptocurrency and irrelevant social media posts in the wee hours of Saturday. The party’s social media team realized that the Twitter account had been hacked and took action. The team filed a formal police complaint and began working with Twitter to restore operations. “The account was hacked after midnight. We started taking action to prevent the damage soon after we got the information,” YSRCP social media wing chief Gurrampati Devender Reddy told TOI. He said they hoped to get everything back soon. The identity of the pirates and their nationality are not known. The account was not restored until Saturday evening. The police registered a case and launched an investigation to find the hackers. The name of the operator of the YSRCP Twitter account has been changed to NFT millionaire and has shared many messages related to cryptos. Within minutes, he posted over 50 NFT-related posts. YSRCP has become the latest victim of a series of cyber-attacks on Indian accounts belonging to politicians and political parties in particular. Working to Restore Account: APDCLVVery recently, the Twitter accounts of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Das and the Punjab Congress were also hacked. The University Grants Commission and IMD accounts were also hacked last week. YSRC activists, who have been active on the platform, immediately sounded the alarm to senior management. YSRCP has been very active on social media platforms since its inception and has assembled a separate team of experts to take care of it. “We found out that the account had been hacked because he suddenly started retweeting messages unrelated to the party,” AP Digital Media Corporation Limited (APDCL) chief executive Chinna Vasudeva Reddy said. He said they immediately alerted Twitter executives and are working to resolve the issue with their team. “Someone hacked into the account and retweeted some of his selling tweets. The account is now locked and we are working with Twitter to change the email address for now,” Vasudeva Reddy said. Meanwhile, the party’s social media wing sent alerts to all party leaders and activists about the development and asked them not to post anything until the account was restored. The party’s social media wing asked its district coordinators to share the development on their personal accounts to spread the message. The YSRCP’s Twitter account has over a million followers who mainly retweet party messages.
