The court in that case found in favor of Wright, but only after pointing out that he had submitted false evidence, which led to an award of just £1 in nominal damages.

In October 2022, Wright had lost his defamation lawsuit against the Bitcoiner pseudonym Hodlonaut. The lawsuit focused on whether or not challenging Wright’s claims that he was Satoshi Nakamoto met the definition of defamation.

The court concluded that since Wright could not provide enough evidence to prove that he was indeed Satoshi Nakamoto, he must be prepared to withstand debate and dissent from people who did not believe him. This finding included Wright’s order to pay Hodlonaut’s legal fees of $348,257.
