A recent YouGov survey revealed what most US citizens think about cryptocurrency and related topics
The majority of Americans view cryptocurrency as a dangerous financial investment, according to a recent YouGov poll of over 1,200 US citizens.
The survey found that 55% consider it very or somewhat dangerous, and only 18% describe it as safe.
Moreover, even those who already own cryptocurrencies are almost as likely to consider them dangerous as those who have not yet purchased digital assets.
The findings also suggest that many Americans would like the US government to tighten crypto regulations. A total of 46% said they support such regulation, including 55% Democrats and 50% Republicans.
The results of this YouGov poll suggest that many Americans understand the risks associated with investing in cryptocurrencies, but also recognize the potential for development within the industry provided increased government regulation is put in place. As government agencies continue to grapple with how to police these markets, it remains unclear whether future legislation will be able to provide consumers with enough protection to encourage crypto growth.
Notably, the majority of Americans (66%) have also heard of the arrest of disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. Most survey respondents believe that Bankman-Fried will and should be condemned for his actions and hold an unfavorable view of him overall, especially older Americans and those currently involved in the crypto market.
