Cryptosat launches its second crypto satellite on the SpaceX rocket

Cryptosat launched Crypto2, its second crypto-equipped satellite module, from Space Florida on January 3 aboard a Falcon 9 rocket bound for the SpaceXs Transport 6 mission.

Cryptosat’s mission is to create a trusted execution environment in space using satellites that power crypto, blockchain and ledger applications. The company believes that satellites possess unique properties that enhance the cryptographic security of sensitive operations by isolating on-orbit computing environments. And by launching its second satellite, which is no bigger than a cup of coffee, it opens up exciting new opportunities in computing.

Crypto2 is equipped with 30 times the computing power of its predecessor Crypto1, launched in May 2020. The satellite has proven essential as a tamper-proof platform to secure and launch blockchains and platforms. Web3 forms.

The partially reusable Falcon 9 launch vehicle, developed by SpaceX, can transport crew and commercial cargo to orbit. Cryptosat, which raised $3 million in seed funding in November, says no third parties interfered with the computing environment before it was launched into orbit. Additionally, being hosted on a trusted module in space, the blockchain is safe from network intrusion or the reach of hackers who often target terrestrial blockchains.

Cryptosat co-founder Yonatan Winetraub said: The launch of Crypto2 is an important step towards expanding the infrastructure from a single satellite in 2022. The launch of Crypto2 gives us more availability and more powerful specifications to support the growing portfolio of use cases in our development pipeline.

The milestone comes shortly after the first version of the Cryptosats Cryptosim software was made available. In December, Cryptosat published an API tutorial with a satellite trajectory simulation. By combining this with an application programming interface, software developers have the ability to interact with the software that will run on the Cryptosats low Earth orbit satellites.

To reduce the learning curve, Cryptosim plans to guide developers step-by-step through the process of communicating with the software installed on the satellite.
