The Methane Case for Bitcoin Optimism in ARKF and ARKW

[ad_1]

Let’s face it, it’s hard to be in crypto right now. While the broader market has been hit with challenges such as inflation and rising rates, the crypto industry, already in a crypto winter, has suffered high-profile scandals and setbacks. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a role for crypto in future wallets, and crypto engineers are still finding ways to innovate with a possible case of bitcoin optimism found, surprisingly, in cryptocurrency emissions. methane.

Methane, although less harmful than carbon dioxide, still contributes to global climate change, but while it burns it could also be reused to mine Bitcoin, making more money for every fossil fuel dollar . That’s according to recent research from ARK Invest, which shows that since companies haven’t spent mass costs on flared systems, vented methane could be used at well sites to mine Bitcoin.

Generating the electricity needed to mine Bitcoin via ventilation would also cost significantly less than it currently does for public Bitcoin mining companies, and assuming there are no supply issues for the material, Bitcoin miners could undermine pure miners using vented methane.

This could increase the return on investment from oil and gas fields and open a new phase for Bitcoin mining at large, supporting companies like Coinbase (COIN) which could see increased traffic. Already down from the crypto struggles, ARK Invest bought the drop on COIN, with a 6.9% weighted stock in the ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF) and 4.7% in the ARK Next Generation ETF Internet (ARKW).

ARKF charges 75 basis points and actively invests in companies poised to benefit from fintech advancements in services such as mobile payments, blockchain and customer platforms. ARKW meanwhile charges 88 basis points for its active investment, looking at companies that stand to benefit from advances in cloud computing, big data, AI, and more.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have taken a big hit lately, and it’s true. That doesn’t mean the tide of innovation has stopped, with vented methane reuse being a case of optimism for Bitcoin to follow in ETFs like ARKF and ARKW.
