Mt. Gox creditors will have more time to decide which repayment method they want to be paid in and register their beneficiary information at the old crypto exchange.
In an announcement dated Jan. 6, Mt. Gox Administrator Nobuaki Kobayashi said the previously announced deadline for reimbursement selection, which was Jan. 10, has now been moved to March 10, citing progress. creditors in rehabilitation in the selection and registration as a reason for the change of time.
The announcement also urged creditors to complete the necessary steps before the new deadline. The update wrote that rehabilitation creditors who fail to complete screening and registration within the new deadline will not be able to receive their refunds or, in some cases, may have to bring documents to the exchange’s head office to receive their reimbursements in Japanese yen. The ad wrote:
The Rehabilitation Trustee will start confirming the content of your selection and registration, etc., after that time in order to issue the refund as soon as possible after March 10, 2023 (Japan time).
The update also clarified that those who have already completed the process do not need to do it again. Additionally, the update asked those who had already completed the process to refrain from making any changes to the registration in order to make the confirmation process smoother.
Following the modification of the selection and the registration, the trustee also obtained the authorization of the court to move the maturity of the basic repayment, the early lump sum repayment and the interim repayment. As of July 31, 2023, the deadline is now moved to September 30, 2023.

Back on August 29, rumors of a massive Bitcoin (BTC) spill from Mt. Gox circulated on social media. However, creditors of the defunct trading platform dismissed the rumors and said they still could not register where they could receive the funds owed to them by Mt. Gox.
