These 5 “lesser known” cryptos made headlines in the first week of January

As the first week of 2023 is about to come to an end, some cryptos have managed to shake off the New Year jitters and turn in stellar performances, at least in the weekly gains department.

While premier crypto Bitcoin and king of altcoins Ethereum have been slow to gain momentum, “lesser-known” digital coins managed to steal the show as they overtook these heavyweights.

Here is 5Crypto with the biggest gains over 7 days: Algorand (ALGO)

Algorand, a crypto asset with an overall valuation of $1.30 billion, stands out thanks to its impressive performance over the past week.

According to Coingecko tracking, at the time of writing, the coin was changing hands at $0.1829 and is up 10.2% in the past seven days.

Although it has been stuck in bearish momentum recently, ALGO is starting the year strong, as evidenced by its 6.2% increase in value over the previous two weeks.

All of a sudden, there is hope for this asset which is seen by some analysts as one of the non-EVM chains with huge potential.

Surprise entering this list, OKB is proving to be a rewarding investment for its holders and investors as it currently paints its cards green.

At press time, the altcoin is trading at $26.79 and is sitting on a weekly gain of over 11%, according to figures from CoinMarketCap.

On longer timeframes, the crypto asset managed to rise 22.5% in the last 14 days and 27.1% on its monthly performance.

Additionally, OKB has seen a 1% rise in value year-to-date, moving away from the norm of digital assets remaining in the red in this particular department.

NEAR, the native cryptocurrency of the Near Protocol, began to recoup some of its losses when it was forced to trade within a tight range during the crypto winter of 2022.

Within seven days, NEAR was able to rise 14.7% to trade at $1.49. He still has a lot of work to do but is definitely on the right track for now.

Gimbal (ADA)

Cardano may not be a “lesser known” crypto, but we decided it deserved a place in this ranking considering what the crypto had to endure.

ADA is off to a great start to 2023 after struggling for most of the latter part of the previous year. The cryptocurrency is currently trading at $0.2707 and has managed to increase its value by more than 11% over the previous week.

With its market capitalization of $9.48 billion, ADA was able to remain in the top 10 of the largest cryptocurrencies in terms of overall valuation.

With many developments, including the introduction of non-synthetic stablecoins, expectations are high for this known competitor to Ethereum.

Total Crypto Market Cap At $771 Billion On Daily Chart | Chart: TradingView.com Solana (SOL)

And yes – Solana. SOL takes the cake in this department as it enjoys a 35.5% gain over seven days.

The crypto that was most affected by the premature collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX seems to have found renewed strength as it begins 2023 with a bang.

SOL changes hands at $12.97 and currently has a total market capitalization of $4.76 billion.
