References to crypto or blockchain technology cannot be found in recently leaked images of Twitter Coins, the platform’s secretive digital asset under development.
First leaked in early December by tech bloggers Jane Manchun Wong and Nima Owji, many hoped the secretive Twitter Coins project would involve cryptocurrency in some way.
Members of the Dogecoin (DOGE) community have been particularly bullish given Twitter CEO Musks’ affiliation with the token. In a December 4 Twitter space, when Musk said he was still interested in bringing crypto to the social media platform.

However, the recently leaked images of the projects’ development shared by Wong and Owji on January 10 are devoid of any mention of crypto or blockchain technology.
Owji noted in a post on Twitter that no leaks so far have provided any indication that the crypto will be involved in Twitter Coins:
This appears to be an in-app currency to support creators. I couldn’t find anything linking it to the *crypto* currency.
Rather, the leaked images shed more light on the intended uses of the in-app digital currency.
One of the images is a screenshot of the purported purchase homepage for Twitter Coins, which explains that the in-app currency will allow users to support creators who tweet great content.

This appears to refer to the Twitter Awards platforms, which Manchun Wong also leaked a week earlier on January 5.
According to a Twitter post from Wong, rewards such as Mind Blown, Bravo, and Super Like can be sent to content creators on the platform at a cost denominated in Twitter Coins.

Even buying Twitter Coins will not involve crypto payments at this point. According to Wong, buying Twitter’s digital currency will be enabled via fiat using Stripe.
Stripe is a fiat-based payment processing platform that allows merchants to accept credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and cash vouchers.
However, that’s not to say that crypto might not play a role in the equation.
On April 22, 2022, Stripe announced that it had begun supporting payments for select Twitter content creators in USD Coin (USDC), with payments being made on the Polygon network.
