Bitcoin could top $50,000 in a few years as cryptocurrencies bounce back from a nightmarish year, according to Anthony Scaramucci.

The SkyBridge Capital founder said he expects 2023 to be a “recovery year” for digital assets. It will set up a longer-term bitcoin rally that will take the price of the token to between $50,000 and $100,000, he believes.

“You take risks, but you also believe in adoption,” Scaramucci told CNBC at a crypto conference in St Moritz, Switzerland, last week.

“So if we get the right adoption and I think we will, that could easily be $50,000 to $100,000 in assets over the next two to three years.”

Cryptocurrencies rallied in early 2023 as traders increasingly expect the Federal Reserve to ease its outsized interest rate hikes to keep inflation under control. The higher the rates, the more attractive it is for investors to put their money in an interest-bearing savings account rather than putting it in assets.

Bitcoin, the main cryptocurrency, has soared 26% this year so far to trade around $21,000, while the second-biggest token Ether jumped above $1,500 after a rise by 29%.

But that rally was nowhere near big enough to recoup the losses cryptocurrencies experienced in 2022.

Bitcoin and Ether are still down over 50% in the past year. Rising interest rates and the implosion of top companies like FTX and Celsius Network have weighed on crypto demand.

Scaramucci continued to trust the industry despite the massive sell-off. He said on Monday that he would invest his own money in former FTX US chairman Brett Harrison’s new crypto startup.

“Brett, I’m proud to be an investor in your new venture. Go forward. Don’t look back. Wishing you the best,” Scaramucci said in response to a Twitter thread where Harrison described his experience. working for crypto exchange failure.
